No Longer A Depotting Virgin & FOTD

Since I bought a quad from the MAC freestanding store in the Eaton Centre a while ago, I decided to depot my other 3 MAC eyeshadows just so I could have them all in one place. I've watched a couple of videos and stuff on youtube before, but my sister was actually the one who helped me with this one.

We used the flat iron method, and it was relatively easy. I didn't have any mishaps, fortunately (: And it's nice now to have my MAC eyeshadows (all four of them!) in one place, plus I can use my depots for Back 2 MAC. :D

By the way, does anyone have any suggestions for using Satin Taupe? I thought I'd be able to wear it with everything cause it's a big staple in peoples neutral palettes, but I find it goes on a silver-muddish colour, and I don't know what to pair it with. :/

Here's the look I did today. I was inspired by a Make-Up Forever Look that Resham posted on her blog which you can find here. It's the very last look called "Highlight in White." I love looks like that with simple, shimmery light pinks, but I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. This is what I came up with:

I don't know why my left eye is so squinty like that. :/

Used:
Eyes:
MAC Soft Ochre p/p
Urban Decay's Scratch e/s from the UD Deluxe Shadow Box (all over the lid)
MAC All That Glitters e/s (all over the lid on top of Scratch)
MAC Espresso e/s (in the outer corner and a little in the crease)
Annabelle Ebony e/s (matte black used as liner & used to fill in brows)
Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara (to set brows)
Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara
Wet n' Wild Glow e/l (on waterline)

Lips:
MAC Bare Slimshine (for Rai :P)
MAC Bare Necessity Dazzleglass

Not my best, but it was simple.

Till later!

My lions mane, haha.

Breaking My No-Buy & FOTD

So, I just got back from the mall to check out the 'Play Up Your Pout' thing at The Bay. I headed to the mall early cause I thought there would be a line up or something, but surprisingly it was pretty tame. There was only maybe 1-2 people there at the time who seem to know about it. :/

I swatched a whole bunch of lipsticks on the back of my hand, and I couldn't really see anything that I would like. I'm the type of person where I may like it on the back of my hand, but I have to see how it actually looks on my face - and I didn't really want to try the testers. So, I just tried Bare Slimshine, and decided to go with that. In the store, it didn't look like I even had anything on my lips, but now that I've tried it at home I love it. It's a 'my lips but better' colour, it's really natural, and it looks like it'll go with everything. I can see myself running out of this quick. But for some reason it has this old waxy smell? :/ It's gone once it's on my lips, but it's still annoying..

Anyways, since we all like pictures:

I ended up paying $9.80, cause the slimshine was $17.50, plus tax that's $19.80, with $10.00 off my total was $9.80 which is not that bad.

I had another lipstick that I wanted to trade in again for Play Up Your Pout, but I knew that they probably wouldn't let me do it again, so I asked this random girl if she would be able to do it for me, and she said sure - but she just had to go and tell her sister where she was going, and I guess she forgot cause she was talking to her sister for a while and looking around the store (we were in Urban Behaviour) and then she left ):

I felt stupid cause I thought she blew me off, but then I took that as a sign that I probably shouldn't be spending anymore money, especially during my 'No Buy.'

Yeah, my no-buy, remember that? I started it a week ago and I've already broken it. So I left the mall so I wouldn't be tempted to buy anything else - especially cause I transferred $50 from my savings account to my chequeing account. 50 bucks that I probably intended to spend on MAC! x_______x

I have no self-restraint.

Anyways, here's another look that I did the other day. I'm trying to work more on doing more neutral/natural/every day looks cause I don't do a lot of them, and when I do they turn out sucky. :/

Used:
UDPP
MAC Soft Ochre p/p
88 shimmer palette (shimmery beige colour on the lid)
MAC Mulch e/s (in the outer crease)
MAC Espresso e/s (in the outer V and inner crease)
MAC Blacktrack fluidline
L'Oreal Voluminious mascara

(I didn't do my brows)

Till later! (:

Play Up Your Pout @ The Bay!

I read this on I Love Sparkles and thought I would share it with you guys.

The Bay is having a promotion where the first 100 customers who bring in any old lipstick (of any brand) will get a $10 voucher to go toward any other lipstick or lip product at The Bay. I just called my local store to confirm this and the details and what not. You can check out the details on The Bay site HERE.

This promotion is only valid tomorrow, Saturday July 25th, 2009 for the first 100 customers. You can also only use the $10 voucher that day, so you can't save it for later.

I know I'm on a no-buy, but $6.50 + tax (which comes to $7.35) for a MAC lipstick is a steal (plus, I can also Back 2 MAC it). My store also carries Dior and Chanel also, so it'll be a nice opportunity to try those out without shelling it out for full price.

Thanks again to Halifax for posting this. If you haven't checked her blog out, make sure you do - cause she posts often about beauty sales going on. (:

FOTD: Style Warriors Inspired

I know the MAC Style Warriors collection came out a while ago, and you're probably sick of hearing about it - but I was messing around the other day and came up with this look. I only did one eye cause I was planning to take it off right after anyways.

Used:
Eyes:
UDPP
MAC Soft Ochre p/p
L'Oreal HiP Duo in Wicked (gold colour all over lid, purple to define crease & outer V)
88 matte & satin palette (purple above crease & white to highlight)
Annabelle Pigment Dust in Solar (used dry, on top of gold to bring it out more)
MAC Blacktrack f/l
L'Oreal Voluminious Carbon Black mascara
Ardell Fashion 110 lashes
MAC Engraved Powerpoint (on waterline)

Lips:
Rimmel Airy Fairy l/s
Rimmel Birthday suit l/s
(both were layered on top of eachother)

I used the L'Oreal HiP duo before which you can see HERE but that one was really bad, haha. :/

I actually really liked this look. I recreated it again the other day afterwork, and I took pictures with my iPhone (the ones above were taken with my iPhone also, but in daylight) but they didn't come out very clear cause of the lighting.

I have so many other looks that I did also, but most of them are done after I come home from work (at night) and so when I take pictures, they come out bad cause of the lighting. I guess my iPhone only takes way better pictures during the daylight, which means I'll have to stick to doing looks during the day.

Till later!

Green With Envy

I've been working the past couple days so I haven't really had the chance to do anything. I need to finally get up and get started on that job hunting, I shouldn't put it off for too long..

Yesterday after work I started playing around with make-up and I wanted to do something with green, cause I've never done a green look before. This is what I came up with:

Used:
UDPP
MAC Soft Ochre p/p
88 matte & satin palette
88 shimmer palette
Annabelle Ebony e/s (matte black in outer V)
Annabelle Cloudy e/s (as a highlight)
Coastal Scents e/s sample in Spirit (in tearduct)
MAC Blacktrack f/l
L'Oreal Voluminous mascara
Annabelle eye kohl in Caledon (on waterline)

Once again, I'm really sorry for the quality of the photos. My camera still works (the one that my sister broke), but I can't see what I'm taking on the back on the LCD, or see what photos I took, or even what settings I'm using to take the pictures. :/ And it sucks butt because I've been playing with make-up alot daily, and it sucks that I can't take pictures ):

Anyways, my sister is leaving for Virginia tomorrow so I'm trying to think of beauty related things that she could bring back for me that I can't get in Canada. Do you guys have any suggestions of anything? I'm at a lost right now cause I have no idea what.

But the number one thing on my list is a Coach Carly Signature Hobo bag:

I'm not really a bag person, usually when I go out I just put my cards or cash or whatever into my Coach wristlet.

But, now I need to carry my glucometer, insulin pen and all that, and I can't really fit that into my wristlet. So I'm looking for a cute big shoulder bag, and the Coach one caught my eye.

Originally, I wanted to get it from the Coach Factory in Niagra Falls, but when I called to ask if they had it in stock, they said they didn't and that there was a 40 people waiting list for it, and that they randomly get it in and don't know when they will next get one.

I haven't called Coach stores closer to me, cause I didn't really wanna pay retail for it (around $390 + 13% tax). So I'm going to ask my sister to see if she can find it in the States. Fingers crossed, hopefully she can, I really want it!

Till later guys! (:

Another Haul & Officially Starting A No-Buy!

So the day after me and my sister hauled at Eaton Centre, (although it doesn't seem as I got much, but I take into account the money I spend to get there and back, food, etc..) we also went to Wal-Mart and picked up a few beauty essentials there also. Here's what I hauled:

  • Equate facial wipes
  • Quilted pads
  • Coppertone sunscreen
  • L'Oreal Voluminous mascara
  • SPAresources concealer brush
  • SPAresources medium eyeshadow brush
So after this, I decided to go on a no-buy. Basically, I'm not going to spend any money on anything that is not essential to me. Hopefully this will stop me from spending money on things I don't absolutely need, and I can start saving more, haha. I'm going to start keeping my debit card at home, cause that's what always gets me, the fact that everywhere takes debit and it's so easy to swipe and call it a day!

I'm also going to go out looking for a second job tomorrow. I currently hold a retail job, but it's not fulltime at the moment, and since I'm doing anything exciting this summer, I thought it would be best to find a second job and do something productive and make some moola. (:

Anyways, I have a couple of looks that I want to post, but my camera phone sucks butt at taking true, detailed photos, and my sister broke our camera. ): So until we get a new one, I'll have to put up these crummy quality pics. Sorryyyyyy guys!

Till later! (:

Downtown Haul

So on Saturday, I asked my sister come to with me to the Eaton Centre downtown Toronto because I needed to return some stuff from Hollister & Sephora (I hate doing returns but I had to). So while I was there me and my sister picked up a few stuff (at my expense of course, ha).

Here's what I hauled:

Some accessories from Forever 21

All from Forever 21 (all prices are approxement & in CDN):
Skinny jeans - $17.50
Coral summer dress - $12.50
Pale yellow racerback tank - $5.80

I love Forever 21 because they have trendy clothes at affordable prices. That coral dress is SO cute, and even though I don't really wear everyday dresses, I knew I would find someplace to wear this out.

Unfortunately, I hate having to go all the way to Eaton Centre to go to Forever 21, and everytime I go it's pretty packed and you have to dig cause all of the good stuff is gone, but there's one that's suppose to be opening up in Vaughn Mills, which is a lot closer to me - so I can't wait for that.

AND, when I was looking around at Forever 21, guess what I saw? The EXACT same dress that I bought for my prom. I paid $150 for my dress at Yaya & Co at Vaughn Mills, and the dress at Forever 21 was $35. Can you believe that? FML :|

My sister and I also stopped by the MAC store in Eaton Centre and hauled there also, this is what I got:

Soft Ochre p/p
4 pan palette
Satin Taupe e/s pan (x2 - one for me, and one for my sister)

I put myself on a budget before we went, but that didn't really work out, and on top of that, I hauled again too, but I'll save that for tomorrow.

Also, I'm not sure when this was put into effect, but Sephora has put a 60 day limit on returns? When I went to go return something, the sales associate said that they had a new policy of 2 months for returns now, but that she'd still do it for me. Apparently there was too many people return products after a long time. Has anyone else heard about this?

Till later!

Honest Scrap Tag

I've seen a few bloggers complete this, so I thought it would be fun for you guys to know a little more about me (:

1) I can be a really rude person, but I think that only happens when I get comfortable with people.

2) No one can ever guess my background correctly. I'm from Afghanistan! I always get Indian, but I've also heard White, Spanish, Egyptian, Middle-Eastern, Italian, Pakistani, Irani, etc.. I always love hearing where people think I'm from.

3) I've always been self-conscious with my forehead. When I was younger someone pointed it out to me and said I shouldn't wear my hair in a ponytail cause my forehead is so big, and it's stuck with me ever since. Now when I go out I have to have my bangs down. When people say Rihanna or Tyra Banks have a big forehead, I never see it. :/

4) I love a good laugh. I'm always smiling or laughing, and I can laugh at things for days after. Stomach cramping-cheeks hurting-I-can't-breath type of laughs are my favouriteeee!

5) I'm diabetic. I was diagnosed in April of 2006 I believe? I kept having to pee a lot, and my math teacher thought that every time I asked to go to the washroom, I was just using it as an excuse to leave, so she called my mom and my mom finally made me go to the doctor. It's something that I'm still getting used to (even 3 years later) and that I definitely need to be on top of.

6) I'm a HUGE slacker when I'm getting ready to go out somewhere. For example, if I'm suppose to go out at 5pm, I'll take a shower at 12, do my make-up at 1, do my hair at 3, and then change and rush everything at 4. In between, I'll eat, watch T.V, go on the computer, I loaft a lot. If I did everything consecutively, it would take me an hour to get ready.

7) I'm always listening to music. I can't go a day without music. When I'm walking, on the bus, in the car, getting ready, whatever, I have to listen to music. I hate when my iPhone dies and I'm left without anything to listen to.

8) I always have to have my toe nails painted, even though I hardly show them, haha.

9) I hate people who use incorrect grammar. Your & you're are not the same, neither is there or their, were and we're, etc..

10) I love social sciences. Psychology, anthropology and sociology, I love learning about it and applying it to people I know, celebrities, etc..

I have a couple of hauls to post and some looks, so I'll be doing that this week. The only thing I need is my camera back, that way I can post wayyy better pictures. My camera phone sucks ass sometimes :/

Sally's Haul & NOTD

After reading on XinaRox's Cosmo Diva Blog about a 'Buy 2 Ardell Lashes, Get 1 Free' sale at Sally's, my sister and I decided to head over and pick up some lashes. I'm not an avid lash wearer, I do buy them occasionally, but I never really wear them out, I usually just play with them at home. My sister picked up 2 lashes, and I just went home with one. Her excuse as to why she should have the free one was that I work and I could buy lashes anytime.. ugh sisters. -____-

Anyways, here's what I picked up:

  • Ardell Fashion Lashes in 110 Black
  • China Glaze Nail Polish in Shower Together
  • Sally Girl Eyeshadow in Brick
The lashes my sister got.

Shower together is a pretty ocean blue colour. I wore it on my fingers and it was opaque in 2 coats, in these photos I think theres 3 coats + a top coat. I'm hard on my nails so it lasted 2-3 days before it started showing wear, not bad.

Sorry for the craptastic photos, my sister has my camera so I had to use my iPhone. ):

Battle Of The Brushes: Quo vs. Annabelle

Ever since I first got into make-up, I knew that I would need a good set of quality brushes before I could even go anywhere with anything. And living in Canada, we don't have many accessible brands of good make-up brushes. The only two brands then I have found with good, usable, make-up brushes that I've seen relatively frequently is Quo (which is available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart) and Annabelle.

Basically, this will be my personal opinion and experiences with these brushes, and you can make your own judgments on them with a grain of salt. (:

My collection of Annabelle brushes (on the left) and Quo brushes ( on the right).

Quo Brushes:
Price Point: $10 and up.
Where You Can Purchase From: Only at Shopper Drug Mart locations in Canada.
Look Of The Brushes: All brushes in the regular line are long & silver handled.

Left to right: Face contour brush, all over eyeshadow brush, crease blender brush, 4 brushes from limited edition holiday set.

Quo is well known in Canada, so I thought there wouldn't be a better time to pick up brushes than during a 40% off sale that Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM) had on Quo implements.

First of all, SDM regularly has sales on Quo implements (stuff like sponges, eyelash culers, brushes, etc..). And they can range anywhere from 15% to 40% off. So if you're looking to try out some brushes, wait until there's a sale going on.

Quo also has a good selection of different kinds of brushes. Which is a good thing for someone just starting out in make-up and looking for simple but useful brushes. To see the full collection of brushes that Quo has available, click here.

I personally own:
- Face Contour Brush (I use this for blush)
- Crease Blender Brush (I originally bought this for blending, because the sales associate said it would be good for that, but it's not any type of blending brush at all. This is suppose to be used for precision crease work and contouring your outer V)
- All Over Shadow Brush (I use this for my highlight colour, and for blending my highlight and crease a bit)

To begin with, I'm not a big fan of Quo brushes. They're just mediocre to me. I also feel that they're a bit overpriced for their quality, so I would never pay full price for them. My face contour brush seems to be "crushed." Like, the hair at the top isn't full, and it's bent. I don't know how to explain it, but I'm not a big fan of it. I'm not sure if it's because of the way I wash them or what, but it hasn't "straightened" out. You can kind of see it in these pictures below:

You can kind of see how it looks a bit uneven, that's because of the "crushed" hair.

The ferrule dis-attached from the wooden handle of the brush. Also, this paticular brush has a bit of wood & paint that's chipped off.

The brushes do shed a bit, but not a lot to the point where they lose their "fullness."

The only other brush I would purchase is the Eye Smudger Brush. My sister owns this brush and I borrowed it the other day to apply an all over eyeshadow and although it's really small, it's really dense, and it applied my shadow beautifully.

Overall, Quo brushes are okay, and I would recommend them to someone, but only if they couldn't find anything else. I hardly find myself reaching for the 2 eyebrushes that I have, and I stopped using the face contour brush, only because it hasn't really wowed me, and I've found something better.

Annabelle Brushes:
Price Point: $4-$12
Where You Can Purchase From: At some Wal-Mart, Shoppers Drug Mart and Zellers locations.
Look Of The Brushes: All brushes are travel-sized and black.

To begin with, Annabelle brushes may be a little hard to find. I know that SDM and Wal-Mart sell Annabelle cosmetics, but they may or may not have their line of brushes. Some Zellers locations also sell Annabelle cosmetics, and maybe also their brush line. So the best thing to do is to look to check if any of these locations near you have the brushes.

Annabelle has a small limited selection of brushes, but they do carry just the basics.

I personally own:
- A-21 Large Shader Brush (I use this for apply all over eyeshadow, applying my highlight colour, and blending my highlight and crease colour a bit)
- A-10 Medium Shader Brush (I use this for applying eyeshadow)
- A-8 Small Shader Brush (I use this for applying eyeshadow and doing detailed work, like contouring my outer V, or applying colour to my crease, or a highlight to my tearduct, and applying colour on my lower lash line.)

Overall, I'm a big fan of Annabelle brushes. They're affordable, all of the brushes are under $12 (on a side note, I've found that Wal-Mart is the place that has the cheapest price, but if your Zellers carries these brushes, you can use your Student Price Card [SPC] card and recieve 10% off). These brushes are also incredibley soft, I've had the A-8 brush for a year now, and I've have VERY minimal shedding - probably like only 1 hair *knock on wood* haha.

I would definietly reccomend Annabelle brushes if you can find them. The only thing I'd love to see is a better brush selection.

I hope this helped some of you Canadian ladies out who have been looking for quality make-up brushes. Have any of you tried Annabelle or Quo brushes? What do you think? Let me know! (:

Till later guys. (:

Feeling Blue!

Whenever I'm bored, I put on make-up. It's something that can keep me entertained for a long while. So when I'm just putting on make-up for no specific reason, I like to experiment - and some of the time I'll come up with something I don't really like, for example, the FOTD in my last post.

Since I was killing time, I took it off and tried something more dramatic. I've come to realize I'm better at "bolder" looks compared to "neutral" looks. I'm not sure why, I think it's because with darker colours I can see better where I need to blend and apply more colour and what not. Anyways, here's the look that I came up with. It's a dark blue smokey look. Blue seems to be my go to colour, haha.

Used:

Eyes:
UDPP
Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer
Wet n' Wild e/l in Glow (as a base)
88 matte & shimmer palettes
Annabelle e/s in Ebony
MAC e/s in Espresso
Random Personelle e/s as highlight
MAC e/l in Engraved
MAC Blacktrack f/l
QUO lashes in 801 (I believe?)

Lips:
Rimmel l/s in Birthday Suit

I actually went out shopping with my friend in this look. I was too lazy to take it off, and I liked how it looked, but I definitely wouldn't wear something like this out to work or school or shopping again or anything, haha.

Till later!
